A sales draft is a document that serves as a formal record of a transaction made between a customer and a merchant using a credit or debit card. It typically includes essential information such as the date of the transaction, the amount charged, the name of the merchant, the cardholder’s name, and often a sales recruitment agencies. Sales drafts are generated when a card is swiped, inserted, or manually entered, and they provide proof that a transaction took place. While many modern transactions are digital and paperless, sales drafts still play an important role in the world of payment processing, especially in cases where disputes or chargebacks arise.

In situations where a customer questions a charge or files a dispute with their card issuer, the issuing bank may request a copy of the sales draft to verify the details of the transaction. If the merchant is unable to provide a valid draft, the transaction may be reversed, and the merchant could lose the funds. This is why it is important for businesses to retain copies of sales drafts, either physically or electronically, for a certain period, usually up to 18 months, depending on the card network's policies.

Sales drafts can also be useful for auditing and record-keeping purposes. They give merchants a way to cross-reference payments, check for inconsistencies, and confirm that all transactions have been processed correctly. In some industries, such as hospitality or car rentals, sales drafts may include additional information like tip amounts or extended authorization holds, adding further detail to the transaction history.

Although electronic receipts and digital payment platforms are becoming the standard, the concept of the sales draft remains relevant. Businesses that understand the importance of proper documentation and transaction handling are better prepared to protect themselves from financial losses due to errors, fraud, or disputes. Maintaining accurate sales drafts contributes to overall financial transparency and trust between merchants, customers, and financial institutions. As payment technologies continue to evolve, the format may change, but the function of the sales draft as a transaction record remains a key component of commerce.
